Roving Soul was formed in the spring of 2007 at the Lunenburg Public Library when half of the band Sonic Explorers couldn’t make the gig. Jerry, Chris, and Greg worked up a set of material drawing from folk music from around the world and original material inspired by folk music sounds and traditions. The performance was well-received by the audience and a lot of fun for the musicians, and thus Roving Soul was born.

Roving Soul consists of Jerry Sabatini (Sonic Explorers, Makanda Project, teaching, etc.) on trumpet and flugelhorn, Chris Veilleux (project, teaching, etc.) on saxophones and bass clarinet, and Greg Loughman (John Funkhouser trio, Yoko Miwa trio, Lowman, Klezwoods, etc.) on upright bass. Jerry and Chris studied improvisation and traditional world music at the New England Conservatory, and met Greg when he moved to the Boston area after studying jazz at Capital University in Columbus, OH. They realized they shared a deep love for musical traditions around the world and happy to have the opportunity to share this music with you.
